10 Video Game Sequels That Look NOTHING Like The Original
4. Faces (Sequel To Tetris)
Tetris was such a phenomenon, there was no way it wasn't going to have a sequel. There was just too much money to be made to leave the Game Boy classic as a standalone game.
Five years after the original took the world by storm, Tetris' co-creator, Alexay Pajitnov, finally released the sequel, Welltris. It had the same falling-block concept as its predecessor but took place into a three-dimensional pit that.
Although the game was well-received, gamers still wanted more. Only a year later, Pajitnov followed it up with Hats; a game where the player has to match falling hats on people's heads. That same year, he released ANOTHER sequel called Faces where the player has to match falling facial features accordingly.
By this point, it was clear the legendary programmer was just churning out entries that had little in common with what made the series iconic in the first place. (Also, the cover poster for Faces was freaky.)
Some of the later sequels were praised like 3D Tetris and Tetris 99 but none of them came close to surpassing the original and none were ever as surreal as Faces.
