10 Video Game Sequels That Prove Fans Shouldn't Get What They Want

9. Ratchet: Deadlocked/Gladiator

Easily the biggest departure from the rest of the series, Ratchet Gladiator managed to fine-tune combat and make the game feel completely different.

Ratchet Gladiator took the focus of exploring worlds and platforming and turned it towards the franchises' other strength- combat. If it wasn't for the series' iconic weapons, you could hardly tell that this was the same fuzzy Lombax.

Another big change in Gladiator was the tone. Ratchet seemed a lot more abrasive and violent in this game, with less of the heroic personality we'd seen in the franchise up to this point. Characters also suffered damage in the story, such as Al losing his arm and part of his head. Gladiator was simply much darker, and that's certainly not a bad thing.

Despite all of the changes to the formula, Ratchet Gladiator was still a pretty fantastic game. Combat was much smoother than in previous titles, and the character interactions that fans loved were kept mostly the same.

Jumping through portals, swinging through cities, destroying beings made of darkness and occasionally shooting a gun or two. I also write about games.
