10 Video Game Sequels That Went Super Dark
1. Jak 2
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy was one of the best 3D action adventure platformers ever made, quickly cementing the dynamic duo as PlayStation mascots for years to come.
With an innovative open level design, colorful environments and quirky characters, this is one of the best feelgood games of all time. We loved furry sidekick Daxter's constant quips and speeches if you die in the game and the angry, eccentric mannerisms of the Green Sage.
If you 100% the game, picking up all of the collectibles scattered across the varied sections, a cutscene will play in which our band of merry heroes enter into a portal.
Jak 2 completely shifts the series on it's head, thrusting the player from a happy fantasy island into a dark, dystopian city filled with weapons, vehicles and corporations. Previously silent protagonist Jak has been captured and experimented on, infused with dark eco and discovers he can now speak, developing a badass personality much to the surprise of the goofy as ever Daxter.
Equipped with various guns and the ability to ride a hoverboard, Jak and Daxter navigate through the treacherous story which is much difficult than the original game.
Jak 2 remains one of the most drastic tonal shifts ever in a video game sequel.
