10 Video Game Tie-Ins That Missed The Point Of The Movie

Return of the Jedi Famicom

There are as many, if not more, Star Wars games as there are spinoffs, TV shows, prequels, sequels and Christmas specials. From an early top-down arcade game that mirrored the scene in which Luke practices against a floating laser ball to the excellent, faithful SNES trilogy, some are bound to fall by the wayside.

The most absurd example, however, has to be Famicom's 1987 release. North America was spared this side-scrolling travesty, given that it was only released in Japan officially. You play young Luke, pursuing Darth Vader through a variety of levels. Every level has you confront and kill Vader - no redemption here. Only after you kill him, he transforms into some sort of creature and escapes - like an evil Princess Daisy, Vader is in another castle.
