10 Video Game Tragedies That Elevated Stories
3. Trish Dying No Matter What - InFamous
Before they put out Ghost of Tsushima in 2020, Sucker Punch were known for the highly underrated InFamous franchise. This PlayStation superhero franchise put you in the shoes of Cole McGrath and asked to choose between good and evil pathways.
The original game is set in Empire City; ravaged by a blast that gave Cole his electrical powers. At first the protaganist looks to get out of the city with his friends Trish and Zeke at his side, but soon digs deeper to find who caused the explosion. At many points in the game, McGrath is tested by the antagonist Kessler, but the worst comes in the game's final act.
Kidnapped by Kessler, Trish dangled from a roof with her medical colleagues suspending from another. Cole is forced to make the brutal choice; the life of one or the lives of many?
Trish is killed no matter what the player chooses.
It's either a tearful or bitter farewell depending on which karma path the player has chosen but the ending reveals the truth behind her demise. It turns out that killing Cole's girlfriend was completely intentional on Kessler's path and this third act death makes the game's final twist even more shocking.
