10 Video Game Upgrades That Made Everything WORSE

4. Skells - Xenoblade Chronicles X

A possibly hot take incoming here, but Xenoblade Chronicles X's Skells - gigantic mechs unlocked mid-way through the game which can be used for combat and exploration - can actually make the experience a lot less fun.

Though there's certainly a neat novelty to the Skells when you first gain access to them, soon enough the temptation arises to use them for basically everything, no matter how easy it makes much of the game's combat, and that on-foot exploration feels more in the spirit of the adventure, so to speak.

Skells can also be upgraded with a Flight Module which makes getting around the planet Mira even quicker and easier, which while awesome for a time, again trivialises traversal to an arguably excessive extent.

Skells are in theory a great mechanic that suffer from poor balancing, such that players may have to talk themselves into just... not using their Skell from time to time.
