8. GLADOS - Portal 2

For most of her existence GLADOS, everybody’s favourite murderous AI, didn’t care much for humans outside of their utility as test subjects. So when she’s stuffed into a potato by Wheatley, a bumbling AI with literally the worst ideas in the world, the lesson in humility is doubly hard to swallow.

But the true change of heart comes from a memory she never she knew she had.

Entering the abandoned testing labs beneath Aperture Science, GLADOS comes face-to-face with a portrait of the sweet and innocent Caroline, the founder of Aperture Science, Cave Johnson’s, former assistant, only to realize that she and Caroline are one and the same. Post this revelation the acerbic GLADOS takes on a humane edge, going so far as to apologize – grudgingly – to her former human lab rat Chell for the hell she put her through.

What follows is the unlikeliest of duos as GLADOS joins forces with another being – for the first time – and saves Aperture from Wheatley induced self-destruction.

How far this reform goes is kept ambiguous, but with Chell freed and GLADOS opting for robotic test subjects instead, her villain days, it seems, have been left far behind.
