10 Video Game Villains Who Lived Long Enough To Become The Hero
5. Achernar - Myst IV: Revelation
Ahcernar’s road to redemption was a rocky one, but Revelation rewards him with a noble, and surprisingly moving, tribute.
His past could not have been more damning. In Myst he is unambiguously evil, a scheming villain with a fetish for torture and the crafting of twisted and dangerous toys, who plots with his equally unhinged brother, Sirrus, to imprison his father and plunder the wealth of the Ages of Myst.
So when things go wrong in Myst IV and their younger sister, Yeesha, is abducted the brothers are again prime suspects. Achernar pleads innocence, but with a stolen artefact in hand and a demeanor best described as crazy he is not an easy man to trust.
And yet, he speaks true. Sirrus has taken control of Yeesha’s mind, essentially killing her, and has every intention of doing the same to his father. The player is sent into her mind to free her and returns to find a dying Achernar, who has sacrificed himself to stop the ceiling collapse that would have killed them all.
It as a hero’s death, and fittingly moves his regretful father, not the best of parents, to show greater care and love for his daughter.
