10 Video Game Weapons That Went Too Far
5. Chicken Guns - South Park and Gears of War 3
These two games that used chicken guns could not be more different in era, tone, or content. But, classic weapons never go out of style.
Gears of War 3 is agame that takes itself very seriously, making the fact that such a goofy, elaborate Easter egg exists in the game that much more remarkable. Through a fairly convoluted set of steps undertaken in Act 4 while playing on Insane difficulty, a pirate chicken will finally appear and drop the Cluckshot. The Cluckshot, naturally, fires explosive chickens.
The South Park game, way back for the Nintendo 64, took a different approach. In that game, you could find a rather flexible chicken who could be used as a sniper weapon, launching a high-velocity egg at your opponent. Tactically speaking, it wasn't great (which seems odd to have to say about a chicken, but there you go,) because it was very slow to reload. To be honest, the whole game wasn't great (although this writer went out and bought it day one,) but at that time anything South Park-branded was gold.
South Park also had a cow launcher, which Gears never explored as that is far more outrageous than a chicken launcher, right?
