10 Video Games Banned Overseas For Ridiculous Reasons

7. South Park: The Stick Of Truth (Australia & Europe)

Maybe it isn't the most shocking revelation that someone was offended by South Park. The Comedy Central mainstay has been waging a crusade against modesty for practically an entire generation now, and South Park: The Stick Of Truth arguably pushed its boundaries even further.

What's weird about Australia's temporary ban and subsequent censoring of the game in Europe, however, is its strange double standard.

South Park the show airs in Australia uncensored, for an audience of those aged 15 and up. The Stick Of Truth was denied even an adults-only rating, due to just one scene.

During the part of the game where the player is abducted by aliens, he, along with other recognizable characters, is subjected to anal probing. Australia took exception to the fact that the scene depicts a child being "probed" by objects that resemble penises, in an interactive setting.

No amount of censoring the scene was acceptable, short of its outright removal, replaced with an image of a crying koala and text that vividly describes what's happening.

In other words, nearly identical scenes in the show are OK even for teenagers; as a video game, it isn't OK for anybody; and as text, it doesn't matter at all. Hm.
