10 Video Games EVERYONE Gave Up On
5. Redfall
Redfall is the reason this list is called “games everyone gave up on” and not “games you wouldn’t believe everyone gave up on” because it probably doesn't come as a particularly big surprise that not everyone who started Redfall decided to finish it.
This was a rare miss for Arkane Studios who are most known for Dishonored, Prey, and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Okay that last one was mostly for me, but how cool was that game? The premise was intriguing albeit worried some people as the gameplay and story structure came off a little thin, even in the pre-release hype trailers. You’re let loose in a town overrun by vampires and can select out of a series of playable characters each with their own loadouts, backstories, abilities, and personalities. Even better, you’re encouraged to do so in PvE with a handful of friends. Unfortunately, what should have been a good open world FPS peppered with story missions, side-missions, and interesting big bads to take down, ended up being even thinner on content and intrigue than we thought.
As a result, the game snagged itself a retirement score of 17.7% as of the time of writing which may not seem like a lot but, again, you have to factor in this is just the audience on HLTB who logged kicking off the game in the first place and then went to the effort of very officially putting it down.
Given the game can be knocked over in as little as 12 hours this is also a bit of a cringe moment for Arkane as this was the most retired game of 2023 before it was overtaken by two of the other titles on this list. Those who marked it as retired left comments that ranged from the game lacking a hook and being too buggy, to one comment that just wrote in all caps that it’s the worst game in existence. That person logged a single hour which I can only assume was a deeply regrettable 60 minutes.
