10 Video Games EVERYONE Gave Up On

4. Amnesia: The Dark Descent

If you’re wondering why a game so fantastic has been abandoned by so many, a good handful of you might already be nodding along realising that it harkens back to that ‘horror’ bit. It’s simply just way too scary.

Now, I, too, gave up on Redfall and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. While Redfall was scary in that I can’t believe Bethesda pumped out a game that bad, Amnesia was just too much for my cowardly little heart to take. I primarily blame the god-forsaken prison level where the gatherer enemies are just bloody everywhere, it’s pitch black, and if I gave it any more time I would have had a heart attack. If you can power through Amnesia The Dark Descent is actually only 8 hours long so you’d think that those who picked it up and told HLTB about it would know what they were getting into and be primed and girded for whatever developer Frictional Games was going to throw at them.

Well, given the 9.3% retired statistic it’s safe to say that wasn’t the case. This is also a game where we have another stat thanks to the NOPE achievement players can only get if they boot the game up and then instantly quit out in the first cutscene.

This has been grabbed by 59% of players and while it’s safe to say some of that will have been seen as an easy win by achievement hunters, seemingly lots of people including yours truly probably got it organically. The comments from HLTB retirees back this up with some claiming they gave up on the game because it was boring, while the vast majority said it was too spooky, called themselves a wimp or a chicken, or, in my favourite case, one comment simply said “Stupid prison.”

And I’m not sure if I’ve ever related to anything more. Stupid prison.
