10 Video Games Everyone Hated (Until They Played Them)

9. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

Silent Hill 2 Remake
Square Enix

There wasn't much pre-release faith in Square Enix's Guardians of the Galaxy game, to say the least.

For starters, the publisher was fresh off the failure of their live service Avengers game, and though Guardians of the Galaxy was a more straight-forward, story-driven action-adventure title, for many the voice acting and dialogue gave off a strong whiff of "we have the MCU at home."

Square Enix did a frankly awful job of presenting the game in their marketing, given that the end product was actually a charming and thrilling romp, offering up an endearing rendition of the superhero ensemble, accompanied by an awesome soundtrack and tight gameplay.

It was ultimately far, far closer to the quality of Insomniac's Spider-Man games than just about anyone could've expected going in, yet sadly much of the commercial damage was already done pre-release, as Guardians of the Galaxy ultimately underperformed commercially, likely killing any prospect of a sequel.
