10 Video Games Everyone Hated (Until They Played Them)
7. DmC: Devil May Cry
It's tough to really blame Devil May Cry fans for harbouring white-hot hatred for 2013's reboot before they got their hands on it, because it simply wasn't what most folk wanted from the franchise's future.
After a five-year wait for a new entry into the character action series, for Capcom to reboot it with an aggressively redesigned version of protagonist Dante, who was also now a motormouth edgelord no less, ensured it went down like a lead balloon.
But fans had to begrudgingly admit that the actual game itself was ultimately pretty good.
Sure, Dante's redesign still stinks and his obnoxious personality isn't great, but where it matters most - the chaotic gameplay - DmC did feel like a worthy successor to Devil May Cry 4.
It's certainly not an entry that's fondly recalled by all Devil May Cry fans, but years removed from its release, it's fair to say that DmC's vitriolic reveal wasn't reflective of its overall quality.
