10 Video Games Everyone Hated (Until They Played Them)
4. Batman: Arkham Asylum
Ridiculous thought it might seem today, back in 2009 there wasn't much hype at all for Batman: Arkham Asylum, given the generally tawdry state of video games based on popular IP and specifically the general lack of quality Batman games.
Why, then, would a little-known developer called Rocksteady Studios, with just a single OK game to their name - Urban Chaos: Riot Response - deliver anything worth playing?
But fans of The Dark Knight were only too happy to eat crow when the game released to raves, enough that it even earned a place in the Guinness World Records for being the "Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever" at the time of its release.
Arkham Asylum didn't merely offer up a brilliant story, excellent voice acting, and super visuals - its ultra-fluid combat system also proved popular enough to be imitated by a glut of action games ever since.
Arkham Asylum's surprise success of course led to a bevy of follow-up titles, building a genuine universe out of something that arrived with barely any fanfare whatsoever.
