10 Video Games It's Cool To Hate
2. No Man's Sky
If there’s one thing we all know about gamers, it’s that they have long memories and they don’t take disappointments well. Granted, that’s two things, but they’re both equally important in the sad case of No Man’s Sky.
We live in the age of the post-launch fix, the update, the enormous day one patch. As such, actually finishing a game prior to its release is of lesser importance than it used to be. You couldn’t just open up a chunky N64 cartridge and add new content to it, but these days, patches can repair any number of ills after the fact.
Despite all of this, first impressions are still incredibly important, and No Man’s Sky did not have the launch that all the pre-release hype suggested. It was sorely lacking in certain features, even those that had been considered big selling points beforehand. The experience was quite barren when it first arrived in August 2016, and while Hello Games have added all manner of content since, No Man’s Sky will always be remembered by some as the darn ambitious game that just didn’t deliver.
