4. Dokapon Kingdom
This obscure gem is a cross between Mario Party, Monopoly and Final Fantasy. The game world is set up like a board game, the players taking turns rolling virtual die. Depending on what space a player lands on they will either gain items, start a special event, or enter a battle. The battle system is a very simplified version of your average RPG, usually taking place in just one turn. It works not unlike Rock Paper Scissors, with each kind of attack corresponding to a certain block. The point of the game is to save villages from boss monsters, after which you become the mayor of that village. The more villages you run, the more money you bring in. Its a game designed around screwing over your friends, and there are myriad ways of doing so. Stealing their village, hiring an assassin, or even signing a contract with the devil to gain ultimate (if temporary) power, the game gives you many tools to wreak havoc upon your loved ones. Dokapon kingdom supports up to 4 players, but it works wonderfully for 2 sweethearts snuggling up against one another. Until you steal your lovers castle that is, then youre sleeping on the couch.
