10 Video Games Released At The Wrong Time
4. Mad Max
Well, this one was just stupid.
Games based off films are rarely good ideas, although occasionally they can surprise you; Pixar’s Brave game has way more to it than you’d expect, for example.
With Mad Max though, there was reason to be excited. The movie seemed like a great pick to get the video game treatment, with the world and key themes translating effortlessly. And with Avalanche, the studio behind Just Cause, working on it, the right ingredients all seemed to be there.
Sadly, coming out four months after the movie blew a lot of that potential right off the bat. It was too late to be seen as a tie in, but too close to feel like its own product. Even though the game had been planned regardless of how successful the movie was, the lateness felt like it was a rushed cash in.
The combat being an Arkham clone is hardly an embarrassment, given how many games copied that fluid fighting style, but it also didn't help. Coupled with the lateness, it was held up to exemplify how rushed Mad Max allegedly was.
The fact it released on the same date as Metal Gear Solid V was just the icing on the cake.
