10 Video Games That Were Scored Way Too Highly On Release
4. Killzone 2
IGN: 94 Gamespot: 94 Eurogamer: 90 And there you were, thinking things like Watch Dogs' release day graphical downgrade and Mass Effect's ending were the pinnacle of misdirection in pre-hype gaming PR. Nope, any who watched the footage for Killzone 2's reveal back in 2005 were treated to Sony showcasing a fully-CG 'gameplay' trailer that was rendered to look as if it was in-game - when in fact the whole thing was pre-made as a touched-up cutscene. Therefore what was thousands of jaws dropping to the floor in excited unison quickly turned into fire-eyed accusatory "How dare you?!" responses when we found out what the real thing looked like. Then, when K2 finally released, it was inevitably another brown and grey trek through character-less environments, populated by even more sterile teammates - just like the original. Was this reflected in the majority of reviews though? Barely at all. Sony's 'Halo-killer' was remarkably dull for a flagship system-selling shooter, and even for those who managed to stick with it until the very end, the terribly nonsensical ending was a rather large middle-finger to their efforts in the story anyway. All together now; "F**k Rico."
