10 Video Games So Good They Ruined Genres

8. Burnout Paradise

Burnout Paradise is a racing game so purely focused on fun above all else that it has pretty much said the last word on online racers...despite releasing back in 2008.

Paradise was the last mainline entry into the Burnout series before developer Criterion Games began to exit the racing game market, and the franchise went out on an absolute banger.

You see, Paradise introduced open-world, online racing to the series for the very first time, and did such a spectacular job with it that no other game, not even the Forza Horizon series, has quite been able to top it.

A million miles away from the glut of self-serious online racers out there, Paradise was only about racing as much as it was crashing, smashing through billboards and basically causing utter chaos in an online lobby with other players.

Enduring love for the game caused it to be remastered last year, ensuring that no matter how many terrible Need for Speed games might get released, and no matter the impressive steps Forza has taken, Burnout Paradise set a bar for online racers that has yet to be cleared.

Given that Burnout Paradise Remastered topped the sales charts last year - proof perfect of the continued hunger for its refined multiplayer sandbox - maybe one day Paradise will get the follow-up it truly deserves. EA does love money after all, right?

But until then, Paradise is the only online racer you really need to play.
