StarCraft: Ghost is a sci-fi shooter that has been knocking around the gaming community for over 10 years. Announced by Blizzard way back in 2002, the game was initially scheduled to be released for the PS2, Xbox & Gamecube consoles. The planned release for 2003 was naturally never met and by 2004 developer Nihilistic software had withdrawn their participation with the project. Blizzard then moved onto developers Swingin' Ape Studios in the hope that this collaboration would rescue their ambitious release. Like previously, missed deadlines and underwhelming content meant the developers once again jumped ship and Blizzard were left on their own again. After 2006, the game went into a sporadic state, with information occasionally being released by Blizzard about the potential for the games development and subsequent release. The reasons provided for the delay were that the design of what Blizzard were hoping for wasnt being achieved with current hardware, going on to express the feeling that the game should be aimed specifically at a more cinematic experience. Whatever the true reasons behind this astronomically prolonged delay, it is a shame that nothing concrete was created from the use of various developers. Sadly the game is now to be considered cancelled indefinitely, but one hopes that with the rise of the Starcraft series in recent years a release on next-gen consoles may be a possibility.
