5. Final Fantasy Versus XIII
The Final Fantasy series has been a ubiquitous aswell as commercially and critically successful one. Redefining the RPG genre and bringing it to the mainstream Western audience, the series has always focused on redefining our interpretations and preconceptions of video gaming. Back in 2006 Square Enix once again hoped that the aforementioned Final Fantasy vs XIII would prove to be just as successful when processed through the influential Square Enix machine. Sadly, the game since then has had many stop/start moments. It seems that the game since its first outing back in 2006 has buckled under the ambitious structure of content that director Tetsuya Nomara wanted to create. His intentions to create a differing interpretation of the Final Fantasy series have been made apparent on countless occasions but it seems that trying to tie down a specific focus has been problematic. Ideas ranging from conventional FF mechanics to even shifting the game toward that of the musical after Nomara watched the 2012 film Les Miserables have seen the game struggle to find its identity. Only at E3 2013 was the game once again unveiled but this time with a differing title and a planned release on next-gen hardware. The game now titled Final Fantasy XV looks to have gained serious traction for a release with teasers and trailers showing the games stunningly beautiful graphics and alongside an unconventional gameplay structure and differing philosophy within its creation the game looks set to once again re-invent the Final Fantasy franchise. Heres hoping.
