10 Video Games Stuck In Development Hell (That We're STILL Looking Forward To)

8. Hollow Knight: Silksong

Judas game
Team Cherry

A perennial entrant in WhatCulture's "Most Anticipated Games" list, Silksong has taken far longer to gestate than most anticipated.

Ever since the sequel to Hollow Knight was announced, anticipation has been running high. Team Cherry's magnum opus was widely hailed as one of the greatest entries in the metroidvania pantheon upon its 2017 release, and in the six years since only Metroid Dread has come close to matching it.

Hollow Knight's intricate world-building, razor-sharp level design, blood-pumping boss battles and many other hyphen-worthy superlatives were a staggering achievement from an unknown independent studio, and Team Cherry have taken their time to craft a sequel worthy of its legacy.

To be honest, a greater frequency of updates on Silksong's development would have been greatly appreciated. Next time you watch a showcase on upcoming games, take a drink every time a commenter hopes for a Silksong update. You'll be slumped on the floor before the show even starts.

However, Team Cherry earned lots of trust with Hollow Knight, and no matter how long it takes, legions of fans will be there on launch day to enjoy the latest entry in the saga of gaming's most melancholy insects.
