10 Video Games That Added Obvious Features INSANELY Late

These key features in video games took 'better late than never' to new heights.

As the 8th generation of consoles burst onto the scene in the latter half of 2013, pushing the medium forward, the industry moved with it.

Online connectivity brought gamers together across the globe; sharing their hobby with likeminded people, roaming their favourite fictional worlds and shooting fictional bad guys in their droves as a collective.

To accommodate this, many developers adopted a more longterm plan for various darling franchises.

The days of unlockable characters and complex cheat codes are fewer in number as we head into the 2020s, and it's understood that if a game's modes, mechanics or options are limited at release, you can rest assured the developers will be adding many more features post-launch.

And yet, while the practice is often necessary to ensure a game lives up to hype, the lack of obvious and essential features in many titles can take far too long to come to fruition.

From highly-anticipated AAA blockbusters to competitive online multiplayer games and everything in between, the following games were cheeky enough to add vital components to their game, far past the initial release date.

10. Multiplayer - Stardew Valley

Released in February of 2016 to a sea of critical praise, Stardew Valley introduced gamers to the charming Pelican Town and its kooky inhabitants.

As the new farmer in town, your job is to tend crops, build up your coffers and woo the local townsfolk with a smattering of gifts and small-talk before returning to the farm for a well-earned rest.

The simple and joyful music perfectly complimented the lighthearted nature of the game, but as the farm expands, so too must your responsibility. What was once a gleeful farming simulator quickly becomes a stress-inducing task manager where 'one more day' is simply never enough.

A new farmhand was in order, so a multiplayer component was an obvious choice to expand the empire you've created and share the workload. While lone-developer Eric 'ConcernedApe' Barone continues to support the game with frequent updates almost 4 years into its life, it was August of 2018 before we'd see a multiplayer mode.

Now that the component has been added as part of the 1.3 update, players are free to hop into a game through online multiplayer, continuing the fun with 3 other players.
