Ever heard of Fortnite?

The Battle Royale genre burst onto the scene in late 2017 when PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG for those who are familiar with chicken dinners) adopted the 'every man for himself' game mode. The desperate chase for a victory over 99 other combatants caught traction with online game enthusiasts, and it was Epic Games' Fortnite that brought the genre to the masses.

Offering players the option to play solo, with a friend or as a team of 4, the battle often became as much about supporting allies and team work as it did about adopting a lone-wolf mentality.

However, despite collaborative efforts with friends being encouraged, the game didn't offer the option to play in split-screen. Instead, players wanting to participate as a team needed separate TV's consoles and Epic Games accounts to join the fun.

This all changed, however, when Epic Games finally included the option for players to share a screen and operate from the same couch. Although each participant is still required to use their own Epic account, and the mode can only be used in duos or squad matches, the need of a costly headset and strong internet connection is no longer.
