LucasArts' classic Monkey Island series is well regarded - and for good reason.

The humor and solid writing, you can't forget the fact that the game was waaay more forgiving than most adventure games of the era. Unlike Sierra's other titles - where you can lose Police Quest because you didn't walk around a car, died of thirst on planet Kerona in Space Quest or didn't catch a cat in King's Quest - the Monkey Island series was forgiving.

For many people who grew up with the Monkey Island games in the '90s, they had an air about them - which is why we're actually talking about the 'Special Edition' remake from 2009.

For so many people the original game is iconic, and even though there were graphical, audio and gameplay improvements to the remake, many people still prefer the original version.

It's definitely a strange situation when a reboot is made totally moot because of nostalgia. A vocal portion of the audience actually prefers the original, lower-quality version of the game, and called for simple ports over the full reboot.

Some going so far as to call the HD visual upgrade unnecessary and unwanted.
