10 Video Games That Are Even Better Than You Remember
8. Batman: Arkham Asylum
Batman: Arkham Asylum is still widely believed to be one of the Caped Crusader's best outings in gaming, but the impact that it has was drowned out by the sprawling landscape of Arkham City that released just two years later.
The latter is rightfully praised for how it advanced the formula on a gameplay level, but what it gained in scope it lost in atmosphere.
While returning to the Asylum may feel restrictive in comparison to its successors, the claustrophobic setting and dense horror-inspired atmosphere are part of its charm, and all these years later it's perhaps more impressive given the the direction the franchise later went.
Replaying Arkham City, Origins or Knight wield similar experiences, with an open-world setting to take advantage of and levels playing out in a similar way. However, Arkham Asylum only offers a hub world that is far more focused. Batman never feels like the predator like he does in later games, and so it presents an entirely different vibe.
Arkham Asylum is the start of something great, but it's also the end of something truly spectacular, even more so now that the series is finished.
