10 Video Games That Are Even Better Than You Remember
6. Dark Souls 2
With the recent release of Elden Ring taking the industry by storm, FromSoftware can do no wrong, it seems. The company's history as one of the industry leaders in melee combat design and crushing difficulty is known to so many, and games like Bloodborne, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and Dark Souls have reinforced that reputation through the years.
However, there is one game that is not as revered as its counterparts. Dark Souls 2 is the black sheep of the trilogy, as the first and third are seen as some of the best games in the genre. Dark Souls 2 is hard, but has spots where the difficulty crosses the line into being cheap.
Despite being criticized on release, though, Dark Souls 2 has so many gorgeous and interesting areas and characters that fit the series' immense quality and reputation. Scholar of the First Sin released just one year after the base game, and did well to iron out some of the kinks to make Dark Souls 2 a more well-rounded experience than when it first hit shelves.
Even before the rerelease, though, Dark Souls 2 is an important piece of the FromSoftware puzzle, and has been made better over time.
