Yes, Yes I know it's an obvious choice but come on the original Dark Souls is now legendary for how much it punished players, and set a new standard of skill that you MUST obtain to continue along this lengthy and convoluted quest.

Just look at the reams and reams of videos online of people getting battered by not just the Asylum Deamon but the regular enemies within the first half-hour of the game as evidence as to how much this title wanted to slap newcomers in the face. And that's before even adding in other players who are now such experts in griefing they could lecture on the subject at University.

However, maybe there's an even more alienating entry found in Bloodborne, as this was basically the anti-Dark Souls when it came to combat, ditching turtle poking for lightning-quick dodging, meaning that if you were rooted in Dark Souls you'd be completely adrift along with everyone else despite all the hours you'd plugged into the bonfire.

Obviously this difficulty is part of the charm, but for some (many in fact), it's simply too much.
