1. Heavy Rain

heavy rainIf You Like... Se7en, Memento Ethan Mars is man haunted by tragedy and depression. His son, Jason, is killed in an accident that also leaves Ethan in a coma. Ethan later awakens and suffers from guilt that causes him to black out. After one particular black out, Ethan's other son, Shaun, goes missing. Soon after the incident, he meets with FBI profiler Norman Jayden, who believes the boy has been abducted by the Origami Killer. The Origami Killer drowns his victims during the rainy season. When the bodies are found, they have origami animals placed in their hands. Ethan only has three days to locate his son. Heavy Rain is unique in the fact that it is played from several different character perspectives. This unfolds much like character point of views in a novel, each providing insight into the overall story. Heavy Rain is an extension of what is known as the adventure game genre. The player explores the environment for clues to interact with and have conversations with characters who move the plot forward. Your interactions with the world have a critical impact on the story as a whole. You rarely can fail at a given task, but if you perform poorly it will create consequences further in the game or you can miss entire key elements of the game. Heavy Rain is incredibly cinematic from the first frame to the very last. The intention of the developer, Quantic Dream, was to create an interactive experience more akin to watching a movie than playing a video game. The game uses cinematic language in a way that few games have. The in-game camera is strategically placed in the same manner a film camera is placed to capture a scene, and the results are often spectacular. All of the elements - such as voice acting, writing and scene composition - come together to create a nearly seamless interactive experience. One that anyone who appreciates a good film or a good game will be able to enjoy immensely. Like this article? Let us know in the comments section below.
