10 Video Games That Are Shameless Rip-Offs

6. Ruff Trigger: The Vanocore Conspiracy

It only takes one look at Ruff Trigger: The Vanocore Chronicles to see that it's a complete rip-off of not just one classic platform franchise, but two, and in case you couldn't tell, that's Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Daxter. One would have thought that by copying two of the best platformers of the PS2 era, at least something halfway passable might have transpired through, but from top to bottom, this is a terrible game. It all starts with the character design; the protagonist looks like a furry's fantasy, while the dogs you have to rescue throughout look so cute you'll be ready to vomit after about five minutes - the game goes to both poles, and isn't even consistent in its art style as a result. The tone is surprisingly adult, which feels pretty off-kilter with the little dogs you've got to save, and basically, that's indicative of the product as a whole; the game is misguided, clearly greenlit on the basis of the developers' ability to steal from a proper franchise, but no consideration was paid to how ably they would rip these mechanics off. The end result is a feeble, empty clone that never found an audience, and quite rightly so.
