10 Video Games That Are Shameless Rip-Offs

7. Chrome

Though there's something ironic about discussing which first-person shooter games are rip-offs of others - given how so many of them are similar - Chrome had the bad fortune to rip-off an FPS game that had a real personality and distinct style to it that is recognisable anywhere, and that game is Halo. To be fair, a lot of Halo's ideas have transpired through in to so many FPS games these days - the two-weapon system, the dedicated button for grenades, and the regenerating health - but so few games would dare to steal from Bungie as brazenly as the developers of dreadful FPS Chrome chose to. Despite having the same artistic style as Halo, Chrome is an effort to ape the series that's mediocre at best, suffering from clunky gameplay mechanics, poor graphics (even for the time) and levels that are simply boring. If stealing the overall look of Halo wasn't enough, the game was retitled Advanced Battlegrounds: The Future of Combat on re-release, an obvious attempt to cash-in on Halo's own "Combat Evolved" sub-title. Needless to say, this tactic didn't work, and the game has been relegated to bargain bins ever since.
