10 Video Games That Butchered Brilliant Endings
6. Bioshock
They had one of the single best endings possible... and absolutely ruined it. Everyone knows the twist. It is the twist that defines gaming. Beating Andrew Ryan across the head with a golf club, all the while listening to the reveal of what the story had actually been about was perfect.
A little tweaking, and the game could have ended right there.
But they undercut that momentous moment with hours of tedium and boring filler. The game drags on for so long, never taking any strides forwards with the amazing twist they set up. The reveal was the only major development in the latter half of the game, so it made sense to cut it around there.
And then the final boss is so 'paint by numbers' that it is barely worth mentioning. That being said, it is not disasterously bad but compared to what happens with Andrew Ryan, it doesn't hold it. It feels like an overblown formality rather than a fulfilment of the story.
