10 Video Games That Butchered Brilliant Endings

5. Shadow Of Mordor/Shadow Of War

Batman arkham knight ending
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment

It is a quick-time boss... They turned the Dark Lord Sauron - one of literature's most famous and threatening villains, eponymous to evil and one of the most badass Dark Lords out there - into a quick-time boss.

Nothing else needs to be said (but of course, I will).

The sequel reduced a relatively interesting and unique twist to a laborious grind. The ending promised a war. It was meant to be the titular war that defined the game, but it was the exact same mechanic, in the exact same places, only harder.

The game world had all these additional map-markers that simply afforded lore about places you didn't get to go to. It was highly possible that these markers would be segregated fortresses and places you would be forced to conquer in order to beat the game. In other words, you'd have to wage war against Sauron's biggest assets.

But somewhere along the lines, it was changed to what we got. A grind. Everyone's favourite thing to do.

I like video games, writing and writing about video games. Expect sarcasm and the dry wit of a Brit. And the occasional rant of a unhappy Scot. You know... the usual.
