As fantastical as many of Dontnod's games often are, they more often than not reflect something greater, and often nod toward a trauma rooted within their characters' lives.

Their latest release, Tell Me Why, deftly explores the effects of post traumatic stress disorder not only on the individual but also on their memories.

Tell Me Why's central mechanic - memory piecing - helps cement just how important perspective can be to PTSD experienced by multiple people. Being able to solidify just what happened and removing any doubt surrounding trauma can be indescribably helpful, though perhaps not entirely accurate.

This mechanic reflects perfectly how much clearer and how much blurrier this trauma can become when discussed with someone else. The memories surrounding PTSD will never be crystal clear, after all.

I'd like to avoid the 'darker' moments regarding Tyler, his mother, his identity and general prejudice surrounding it in the plot.

The couple of things I want to note though are as follows: Being able to see yourself in the mirror and wonder what little you would think. And hearing someone tell you "they've always liked that name".
