10 Video Games That Didn’t Know When To End
2. The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda series is certainly no stranger to fetch quests, but The Wind Waker contains what just might be one of the most poorly placed and tedious in the franchises history. Just as the story feels like its coming to a head, the King of Hyrule sends Link on a quest to find the scattered shards of the Triforce of Courage, of which there are eight. Its not until you find all of these that you can fight Ganon.
The problem with this quest is that it comes at the tail end of the game, and the sheer length of time it takes to complete it drags the ending momentum to a screeching halt. Not only do you have to find the shards, but before you can locate them you have to find the Triforce Charts. Thats a lot of fetching to be doing at a time when the story should be escalating to its conclusion.
Had the Triforce Shards quest been integrated into the narrative earlier and spaced out more, this wouldnt have been a problem. The game would have been just as long but without the pacing issues that come in at the end. Instead, the entire quest is dumped on you just as The Wind Waker draws to a close, and the negative effect it has on the plot can easily be felt as a result.
