10 Video Games That Jumped To Other Systems During Development

9. Fallout 3

Final Fantas XV
Bethesda

Next up, we have Fallout 3, the title that got many a gamer into the series. It converted the RPG series in to 3D, changed the perspective to first person and shifted the setting to Washington DC in one fell swoop.

Originally codenamed "Van Buren", the product that morphed into Fallout 3 was set to be a continuation of the franchise's classic isometric routes, while maintaining its place on the PC platform. There had been a spin-off or two on consoles before, but they mostly fell both the wayside both critically and commercially.

Both Interplay and Black Isle Studios would cease working on the game in the early 2000s as the two companies were facing financial difficulties. Eventually, Fallout and the rights to it were sold to Bethesda, who got to work on the revamped Fallout 3 in 2004. The mainline series would arrive on console for the first time as a result, as Bethesda saw fit to develop versions for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Fallout 3 went on to become one the most critically acclaimed titles of 2008 and planted the franchise firmly in Bethesda's hands. Many would argue Fallout has fallen on hard times as of late and the jump Fallout 3 took set it on the road to where it is today.
