10 Video Games That Let You Be An Utter Scumbag
6. Shadow Of The Colossus
Shadow of the Colossus' may be one of the most breathtaking feats of art in video game history, but that only scarcely hides the fact that its protagonist is actually one of gaming's quintessential selfish a**holes - and the game absolutely knows it.
The game casts players as a young man named Wander, who steals an ancient, magical sword and pays a visit to the mysterious supernatural entity known as Dormin, requesting that he help him save the life of a fallen girl named Mono.
Dormin instructs him that if he defeats sixteen massive creatures known as colossi, killing each of them, then Mono will be revived, but at great cost.
Over the course of the game's sixteen epic boss battles, the player hunts and kills these gigantic yet generally passive creatures, who will only attack once provoked by the player.
And at the end of the game, it's confirmed that the colossi were indeed peaceful and innocent, representing sixteen separate fragments of Dormin, which were separated in order to limit his tyrannical power. When collected, however, they allow Dormin to resurrect himself within Wander.
Granted, Wander was manipulated and tricked by Dormin, but much like Joel, his own selfish desire to keep the one he loves alive at a huge overall cost makes it tough to view him as anything less than a scumbag.
Ultimately Wander got what he wanted, but he had to slaughter a fleet of majestic creatures in the process, and ended up reincarnated as a horned baby for his troubles. So he sorta got his comeuppance, right?
