10 Video Games That Made You PAY EXTRA For The Ending

6. Fire Emblem Fates

Fire Emblem is a series that stretches back for years, a literal generation at this point - having originally debuted in 1990 on the Famicom/NES. Fast forward to 2015 and Fates is released in multiple forms, like a bastardized Pokemon game - Birthright and Conquest.

Birthright and Conquest were different versions of the same story, allowing the player to go down separate rabbit holes within the same world and alongside the same characters. In order to get the full story you would, of course, have to buy a copy of each.

But more than just that - regardless of which version you bought, or how many copies you've already got, if you want the 'true' ending, often referred to as the 'golden' ending by fans, then you also need to pay $20 to download Revelation. That $20 is on top of the $40 you spent on either Birthright or Conquest, and $80 if you bought both of them. Not including side-story DLC (which was also available) you had to pay $100 to get all three storylines.

Thankfully Fire Emblem: Three Houses did not follow the same motif and for only $60 you get more than three storylines. Stark improvement, we think.
