4. EA Choosing Profits Over Quality With Anthem
Anthem was Bioware’s
answer to Destiny when it was announced, looking to be the next
“looter-shooter” icon.
EA put a ton of money into marketing the game and making sure people were hyped upon release. It’s important to note that Bioware was treading relatively new territory with this sort of game as their portfolio mostly consisted of highly successful single-player RPGs, so EA were putting a lot of faith into this company and their products.
What gamers were met with was sheer disappointment; clunky controls, awful menus, poor loot RNG and a TON of grinding - which is in the nature of the game, but seemed almost unfair with reward rates and linearity.
A few reasons as to why the game turned out the way it did was because a lot of staff left, or had no passion for the project, as well as working strenuous hours.
The game flopped and was seen as another failure under EA's belt, leaving a lot of players wondering if they'll care about making a good game over profits ever again.
