10 Video Games That Messed With Your Saves

4. A Game Where You Destroy Your Own Personal Files - Lose/Lose

Between OneShot and Imscared, indies seem to have a thing for making file deletion a key game mechanic. Lose/Lose takes this idea to its logical extreme.

Lose/Lose is a shoot-'em-up that tasks the player with manning a spaceship and vanquishing a horde of alien invaders. So far so video games, but Lose/Lose ups the stakes considerably higher than your average shooter. If you are killed, the game deletes itself from your hard drive, forcing you to start over. Which isn't too bad, as it's a meagre download and a score attack game to boot.

What's worse is when you win.

Lose/Lose's USP (Unbelievably Stupid Premise) is that every alien in the game represents an actual file on your computer. Kill the alien, and the file is deleted permanently. Photos, word documents, or even System32 itself - all cattle in the slaughterhouse that is Lose/Lose.

A game that deletes its own save files may be regarded as genius - a game that deletes others looks like madness.
