10 Video Games That MUST Return On PS5 & Xbox SX
5. Portal
Rarely has a bonus game received as much admiration as Portal. Released as part of 2007’s The Orange Box, Valve’s puzzle-platformer – conceived by students from the DigiPen Institute of Technology – was intended as an experimental extra that players could check out in-between exploring the collection’s main draws: Team Fortress 2 and the whole Half-Life 2 saga.
Ironically, Portal became a massive hit, debatably overshadowing those larger inclusions by winning multiple Game of the Year awards and earning widespread acclaim for its mix of challenging problem solving and comedic writing. Naturally, 2011’s Portal 2 upped the ante in every way, with new characters and systems (such as cooperative multiplayer) making it even more beloved than its predecessor.
Although there’ve been a few supplemental additions to the Portal universe (in various mediums) over the last decade, it seems like the likelihood of Portal 3 is getting slimmer and slimmer.
That’s a real shame, not only because of how innovative it could be with updated technology – going deeper into VR or AR functionality – but because it, like its precursors, could foster educational growth and give a new group of students the chance to break into the industry.
