Addiction is a cruel mistress, especially when it comes to the world of phone gaming where addiction is the key. Where as most android and ios games these days seem to be designed to get you hooked and trick you into a series of teeny in-game purchases that will ultimately leave you bankrupt and living in perpetual shame, Flappy Bird was different. Designed for addiction and addiction alone, the mechanism is so simple, tap the phone and the bird flaps, navigate said bird through a series of pipes at varying heights and beat your high score. And theres where the frustration begins, at first it isnt so bad, but the better you get, the longer youll flap, tap after tap, further and further until you reached that point you just cant quite beat anymore. The closer you came, the more bitter the defeat and whilst you wanted to stop, you couldnt until your beautiful, expensive, smart phone is cracked where you hurtled it toward oblivion. Flappy Bird, you terrible beast.
