10 Video Games That Peaked Too Early
2. Crysis
Crysis was one of the most anticipated video games of its generation, a sci-fi FPS with system requirements that can make modern gaming rigs blush over a decade later.
And there's no denying that it made one hell of a first impression: the facial animations were unparallelled, and jumping from a plane down to the Lingshan Islands was staggeringly immersive.
Players were then effectively walked through a tutorial for their Nanosuit, granting them enhanced strength, speed, armour and stealth capabilities.
This culminates with the eye-watering moment where the sunny vista unfolds before you, set to the gloriously epic track "First Light."
It's a goosebump-raising moment and caps a simple yet deliciously effective and visually gorgeous primer for the rest of the game.
Though the Nanosuit is a damn blast to use throughout Crysis' campaign, it's also fair to say that the novelty does begin to wear off amid the relatively formulaic and repetitive core shooter gameplay that follows.
Thankfully Crysis is relatively short and doesn't quite outstay its welcome, yet there's also no topping the majesty of that lush opening which is still making modern PCs chug.
