10 Video Games That Punish You For Cheating

1. 1% Shield & Energy - Descent II

Runescape
Parallax Software

Descent II developers Parallax Software had a particularly cheeky surprise in store for any players who quite understandably assumed they could recycle the same cheat code from the first game for the FPS sequel.

In the original Descent, entering the code "gabbagabbahey" would enable cheat mode, and so it was a reasonable enough expectation that the same would also be true for Descent II.

But in a hilariously infuriating feat of trolling, re-entering gabbagabbahey in Descent II results in your shield and energy being instantly reduced to 1% a-piece, making you easy pickings for any enemies in the vicinity. Basically, it's a big, fat death sentence.

Evidently, Parallax were happy to let players cheat but didn't want them to get too comfortable and complacent about it coming from the previous game.

And so, they left this hilariously nasty surprise lying in wait for anyone who took the punt.
