10 Video Games That Punish You For Cheating

4. No Saving With Cheats Active - Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

One of the biggest drawbacks of modern achievement/trophy systems is that it discourages developers from including extensive cheat codes in their games, lest players use said cheats to hoover up every 'cheev in record time.

And then there's the curious case of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, where you can spend hours and hours collecting all of the Animus fragments in order to complete Abstergo challenges and unlock cheat codes.

But the in-game cheats come with a huge, annoying asterisk - you can't save once a cheat has been activated, effectively locking you out of making substantial progress with cheats enabled.

Though PC players are lucky enough to have mods which will allow them to override this feature, console players simply have to put up with it if they want to use the cheats they worked so damn hard to unlock.

Just let people play how they want to play, Ubisoft, silly digital head-pats be-damned.
