10 Video Games That Reused Bosses (And Made Them BETTER)

2. Seifer (Final Fantasy VIII)

Halo reach
Square Enix

Seifer Almasy is the resident bad boy of the eighth mainline Final Fantasy game. He permanently scars resident emo boy and main character, Squall, in the opening cutscene. He convinces his peers to violate their orders during a mission because he’s bored, and that’s after ordering them to let him get the killing blows for extra experience - and then leaving as a playable character for the rest of the game.

The first time you fight Seifer is a pretty intense one-on-one fight during the failed assassination attempt on Sorceress Edea, after Seifer defects to the villainess’ side. The party fights him again later during an epic battle between the two mobile garden battleships.

The final battle against Seifer is on Lunatic Pandora, where he desperately tries to prove he’s the hero of the story. He fights valiantly against the real heroes - the player’s party, but ultimately is bested. If the player has unlocked the Odin summon, Seifer even kills him - before ultimately being beaten by a new, more powerful summon - Gilgamesh.

In the end each battle against Seifer shows more of his childish naivete and desire to be the a glorified hero, ultimately to be loved and respected. It contrasts beautifully with your increasing desire, as Squall, to see him beaten once and for all and be proven the better man.
