10 Video Games That Reward You For Being Evil

1. Vampyr

InFamous Cole MacGrath
Dontnod Entertainment

There's a trophy/achievement in Vampyr for finishing the game without killing any citizens, which might not sound too bad before you start playing. But you'll soon realise that feasting on the blood of innocents is the best way to obtain XP, and as such, playing as a pacifist is frustratingly unrewarding.

Conversely, the game becomes a million times better if you drop the whole "nice guy" act, and embrace the temptation to become a truly evil vampire.

Killing people and chugging on the red stuff (which is called "embracing" in this universe, perhaps to make it sound less violent) allows you to level up quickly and become more powerful, which not only makes the game more enjoyable, it also makes it easier to play. Vampyr almost punishes you for being good - it's difficult and boring when you aren't putting the fangs to good use, as people who went for that aforementioned trophy/achievement will attest.

At the end of the day, you're playing this game to be a bloodsucking creature of the night, not a vegetarian - and fortunately, it's actually beneficial to be bad.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
