How can you improve on one of the most successful and influential games ever created, with such a simple design that anyone can pick up a controller and immediately understand how to play?
You can't. You have won the gaming industry. Do not attempt any more.
But seriously, some retro games have successfully revitalised the core elements of their game for a modern audience, like the battle royale Tetris 99. But others have remarkably fallen flat on their face after misreading what players want from their retro games (looking at you, Bomberman: Act Zero).
Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures was a point-and-click puzzle adventure game following Pac-Man explores his neighbourhood, completing tasks for his family. The idea comes so far out of left-field. There's no way to control Pac-Man properly, and the game is filled with infuriatingly baffling puzzle solutions. We'd take a maze full of ghosts any day.
