10 Video Games That Tried Too Hard
3. Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare - We Are Always Chasing The Stars
Oh, Call of Duty, how we love to hate on you, despite buying you each and every year. Yes, Call of Duty, the game series that truly needs no introduction. Every year our consoles and PCs are graced with a new Call of Duty entry. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is perhaps one of the most divisive in the entire series. Why? This is mostly due to the fact that people were completely ready to move away from the whole future tech space adventures of previous entries, instead of hoping for a more grounded experience that Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: WWII eventually helped to provide. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare decided to continue in the opposite direction, opting instead to push the game further into the reaches of the universe.
The outcome of this was one of the most disliked Call of Duty trailers in YouTube history. It was clear that the series was simply trying too hard to continue to cash in on people's fascinations with future, space adventures, not realizing we were all ready to move beyond this and get back to a boots-on-the-ground approach. While the core gameplay was still polished and the game had a surprisingly enjoyable campaign, it all felt too derivative of previous entries in the series. Add to this the egregious monetization practices and pay-to-win mechanics and it quickly became clear Infinite Warfare was doomed to be one of the most disliked in the series' history.
